Our local Sustainable Design Consultants are sensitive to the unique culture in Venice Beach and understand the importance of environmental and social responsibility in order to maintain a balance in both the ecosystem and the economy. This network of innovative creatives comes from a variety of backgrounds and experiences in the field of design with one sentiment in common - a passion for sustainable urban planning and a universal understanding that our built environment should be designed according to nature, be socially and ethically conscious, and be respectful of the regions native habitats.
Emily Suzanne Sumner, LEED GA studied Interior Design at the Art Institute of New York City focusing her project concepts on sustainable and environmentally-conscious design by integrating the natural environment into the built environment. With respect to a regions' ecological surroundings, she insists on the importance of designing so that we might live cohesively within our sensitive biosphere - never taking advantage of what nature inherently provides. By integrating living rooftops, up-cycling shipping containers, designating renewable energy, and specifying eco-friendly FF&E, her sustainable designs are woven through every concept while paying homage to mid-centruy modern aesthetic.
Throughout her schooling in NYC she worked as a set designer on print ads for iHome, on local plays, on fashion week films, and on commercial sets as a staff member of EcoSet Consulting. Upon graduating she worked as marketing and outreach at a Brooklyn-based architecture firm and their multi-disciplinary design studio - assisting on the development of anything from space planning trade shows to architecture RFPs. Upon moving to Los Angeles in 2013 she has gained experience in home staging, 3D modeling for product design, and graphic design creating anything from corporate brochures to community event leaflets.
Today she works as a freelance event planner, designer, and marketing manager for various organizations that align with her passion - sustainability, green-living, and the overall health & wellness of this planet and its inhabitants. Her more recent affiliations and volunteer efforts run the gamut of USGBC Greenbuild 2016 Local Partners & Regional Outreach cochair, USGBC-LA's Green Gala Sustainable Innovation Awards cochair, LA Green Festival Regional Marketing & Strategic Partnerships 2015 & 2016, marketing team of California Green Press, serves on the Executive Committee of Surfrider West LA / Malibu Chapter, and has recently become a 5Gyres Ambassador.
Her vision is to become a healer in all facets - guiding clients toward a holistic lifestyle by implementing an energizing plant-centric diet, by working in an environment that insists on social and ethical practices, and by living in a healthy home that supports a life of compassion and awareness. From purchasing choices to dietary consciousness to daily ritual of bodycare, she encourages individuals to make decisions that evoke a happy and healthy existence for the planet and ourselves.
